Three quite different things live here. Only one of them is a backup.
MyLifeCanvas keeps your data in this browser only, which is what keeps it private. It also means clearing your browser data will erase it. A full backup is the only copy that survives that.
You can turn these reminders off in Settings → Backup & Restore.
Time is shown as hours and minutes with the decimal equivalent beside it — 1h 30m (1.50h) — since most systems want one or the other. Tallies run per task, per contact, and in total.
. Check that each column is going to the right place. Anything you leave as ignore is simply not imported.
Lists for . Each keeps its own ranking, so work that should not be compared directly is not forced into one queue. A task can sit in one list or none.
Clock on and off as many times as you like, and to whichever workspace you are actually in — each stretch is recorded separately, so a break for lunch, an evening session, or an hour spent on something else entirely is counted where it belongs. Anything corrected afterwards is marked as such, here and in every report, so a figure recorded at the time is never confused with one worked out later. Nothing here is sent anywhere; it stays in this browser like everything else.
None of this changes a single task. It changes how the place feels to sit in, which after a few hundred visits turns out to matter.
Tasks in . Tick as many as you like and send them to a list in one go. A task can sit in one list or none.
Set this first! This determines how contacts are displayed and what fields appear. Changing later may affect how existing data is shown.

Putting the clock right afterwards
• Go back to any day — Arrows or a date picker, and edit what is there
• Correct the times — Start, finish and workspace, all editable
• Add a stretch you forgot — For a day you worked and never clocked on
• Marked, always — Anything entered or corrected later is labelled, on screen and in reports
• The original is kept — An edit never destroys what was first recorded
• Fixed: a forgotten clock-off ran for days — An open stretch from an earlier day no longer counts until you say when it ended
• And it tells you — Any day left unclocked is flagged when you open the app
Birthdays by person, not by household
• 👤 By Person view — Every individual on their own line, soonest birthday first
• Household and role shown — So you know who they are as well as when
• Colour by nearness — Red within a week, amber within a month
• The card now names whose — "Ruben, in 12 days" rather than just a number
• Fixed: children were invisible — Birthday sorting only ever looked at the first two people in a household
• Prints as a list — A proper birthday list for the year
• Households still there — The view button cycles household, person, timeline
Contacts for a whole life, not just a client book
• As many people as the household has — No longer two slots; children at home get their own line
• Each with their own birthday — And a note saying who they are
• Client, family, friend, colleague — Tick as many as apply, because people are often more than one
• Filter the list by kind — Work, personal, or one category at a time
• Birthdays split work from personal — In the What's Coming report
• Households still group and print — The record is still the household; the people inside it are now individuals
• Nothing lost — Existing records are brought across on first load and marked as clients
Clock on to a workspace, not just to the day
• Each stretch is labelled — The clock records which workspace you were in
• Move without clocking off — One button when you shift to something else
• One stretch at a time — You cannot be in two places, so moving closes the last one
• Where the day went — Hours per workspace, with the booked share for each
• The badge says where — Not just that you are on
• Reports name the stretches — So a printed day shows what the hours were spent on
• Earlier records still count — Stretches from before this are shown as unlabelled
Getting tasks into your lists
• Tick and move — Send any number of tasks to a list in one go
• Show what is not in a list yet — So nothing is left behind
• Each task shows where it currently sits — In the list's own colour
• A word if your lists are empty — The ranking panel now says so, rather than looking like no lists at all
• Master Tasks included — They can be sorted into lists before they are ever promoted
Work for someone who has no task
• Log Activity can name people — A note, a call, a quote sent, with no task required
• Add a contact from there — Same as in the task panel, without leaving what you are recording
• It lands on their record — Shown on the contact card as other work logged
• Counted in their total — Time for a person adds up whether or not a task was involved
• Grouped properly in reports — The day's work sits under the client it was for
• Choosing a task suggests its people — So the common case needs no extra typing
Settings you can navigate, and a button that says what it does
• Four sections — Lists & rates, Contacts, Backup, Make it mine
• Lists shown where the rates are — Every workspace and how it is split, with a Manage button that takes you to it
• Opens on Lists & rates — The thing most likely to be looked for
• Export is now Print & Export — Because it has not just been an export for some time
• Reports come first in it — They are what the button is mostly used for now
Search now shows you what it found
• Matches are gathered to the top — No more hunting for a card that was below the fold
• Your layout is put back exactly — Clear the box and every card returns to where you had it
• Nothing is saved while searching — The gathered view is never written to your data
• Move one while searching and it stays moved — A deliberate drag is respected
• The canvas scrolls back to the top — So the first match is where you are looking
Finished work stays on the record
• Completed section on every contact — What has been done for them, and when
• The history comes with it — Progress notes, logged time and links all survive completion
• Reopen — Put a finished task back on the canvas with everything intact
• In the contact file report — Open and completed work, each with its own tally
• Findable in search — Completed work turns up in Search Everywhere
• Older completions recovered — Tasks finished before this version are still shown where enough was kept
Add a contact without leaving the task
• Add someone new — Right there in the task panel, under Relates to
• Created and linked in one go — Type the name, press Enter, carry on
• It is a real contact — It appears in the Contacts workspace like any other
• Names you already have are recognised — It links the existing one rather than making a second
• Just the name — Birthdays, fees and notes can go in later, when you are not mid-thought
Steampunk Extreme
• Rivets everywhere — Along the plates, at the corner of every card, down the tab rack
• Pipework — Running down the left of every sidebar panel
• Riveted girder — The workspace tabs, with glowing lamplight on the active one
• Pressure gauge — The capacity bar under curved glass in a brass bezel
• Tooled leather — Task cards on stitched hide with brass at the corners
• Steam — A wisp from the clock while you are on, and none at all if your system asks for less motion
• Drawn, not downloaded — Every rivet is CSS, so nothing is fetched and nothing slows down
Skins — make it look like somewhere you want to be
• Six to begin with — Canvas, Steampunk, Industrial, Botanical, Nocturne and Paper
• A skin per workspace — So work can look like work and home can look like home
• Bring your own — Import a skin file, or save the current one to share
• Colours and type only — An imported skin cannot carry anything else with it
• Nothing else changes — Not a single task, date or figure is touched
• Travels with your backup — Your skins and choices come along
Hourly rates, costed work, and a brass time clock
• A rate against each list — Client work at one rate, business work at another, in every workspace
• Set it where you make the list — Or all together under Settings → Hourly rates
• Per-task rates — For the job that does not follow its list
• 💰 Time and value report — Hours costed by task, list and workspace, over any date range
• Your currency — Symbol is yours to set
• Silent unless asked — Leave the rates blank and nothing about money appears
• The clock got its brass — Riveted casing, glowing dials and a proper lever
Search, and a time clock
• Search box in every workspace — Filters the canvas as you type
• It looks past the title — Descriptions, next steps, waiting-on, linked contacts, lists and progress notes
• Everywhere — One search across all workspaces, Master Tasks, Quick Lists and contacts
• ⏰ Clock on and clock off — A big satisfying button, and a noise to match
• Several stretches a day — Lunch breaks and evening sessions counted separately
• A denominator at last — What share of your day was booked against tasks
• Fourteen days of history — Hours at work, hours logged, and the percentage
• End of day report knows — Clocked hours printed alongside the work
One view across every workspace
• Pick your workspaces — Tick any combination, or all of them, for a single report
• Priorities across workspaces — Each workspace with its separate lists, in ranked order
• 📅 What's coming — Everything with a date, in date order, across the lot
• Four sources in one place — Task follow-ups, Quick List dates, scheduled client events and birthdays
• Birthdays recur properly — Next occurrence worked out, with the age being turned
• Look ahead as far as you like — A week, a month, three months, a year, or a custom range
• Grouped by month and day — With how far off each day is
Separate lists, and a clearer Priority Radar
• Separate ranked lists — Name your own, so client work and business admin are not forced into one queue
• Each list ranks itself — Its own numbering, its own order, its own colour
• Assign in one click — A list dropdown on every row while ranking
• Arrange lays out columns — One column per list on the canvas
• Numbers in the Priority Radar — Matching the rank badge on the card
• Click a radar entry to open it — Straight to the task panel, no hunting on the canvas
• Arrange button made obvious — It is meant to be used again every time you add tasks
• Define none and nothing changes — One list, exactly as before
Contacts can be imported from a spreadsheet
• CSV and tab-separated files — Anything Excel, Google Sheets, Outlook or another address book can export
• Columns are guessed, then confirmed — Common headings are mapped automatically and you adjust before anything is written
• Preview first — See the first few contacts exactly as they will be created
• Given and family names joined — Handles exports that split the name across two columns
• Day-first dates by default — With a switch for month-first files, so birthdays do not land in the wrong month
• Adds rather than replaces — Existing contacts are kept and duplicates skipped, unless you ask otherwise
• Handles awkward files — Quoted fields, commas inside values, semicolons and tabs
A report suite built for reading into other systems
• Work done — Everything recorded in a period, grouped by contact then task
• Contact file — One client's details, linked tasks and full history, or every contact at once
• Where things sit — A workspace snapshot in priority order with next steps and follow-ups
• Time tallies at every level — Per task, per contact, and in total
• Both time formats — 1h 30m (1.50h), because systems differ on which they want
• Four one-click presets — End of day, Client file, Time only, Where things sit
• Print or save — Straight to the printer, or a dated and versioned file
• What Have I Done? untouched — The nuanced filtering still lives there
You can now see which version you are looking at
• Version badge in the header — Quiet grey, beside the title, brighter on hover
• Hover for the full filename — The complete dated version string, for matching against a downloaded file
• Click to open the release notes — Straight to About, so you can check what changed
• One version number, not five — The badge, the About panel and every export now read from a single declaration, so they cannot drift apart
Tasks can name the people they concern
• Relates to — Link a task to one contact, several, or none at all
• Always optional — A task never has to name anyone, and contacts never need a task
• Contact cards show their work — Linked tasks, next steps, follow-up dates and time logged
• Names on the cards — Task cards and Today's Focus show who a task concerns
• Time adds up per person — Hours logged against a contact's tasks total on their card
• Contacts still stand alone — Birthdays, events and scheduled items work exactly as before
Logged time and task history are now the same record
• Log Activity can name a task — Ticking "pre-existing task" now offers the open tasks in that workspace
• One merged timeline — A task shows its progress notes and its logged time together, in date order
• No double entry — Work is stored once; a plain note stays a note, timed work lives in the Activity Log
• Time per task — Hours logged against a task show on the card and in the panel
• Log time from the task — A button in the task panel opens Log Activity already pointed at it
• Logging keeps a task alive — Time booked against a task counts as touching it, so it stops drifting
• What Have I Done? untouched — The existing time reporting works exactly as before
Tasks that get pushed along rather than finished
• Progress log — Add a dated entry each time you move a task on; nothing is overwritten
• Next step and Waiting on — Recorded per task and shown on the card
• Follow-up dates — Park a task and its card fades until the date arrives
• 🎯 Today's Focus — One list across every workspace: due for a push, drifting, and Quick List items due
• Drift detection — Anything untouched for 14 days surfaces on its own
• Push a week — Move a follow-up on without opening anything
• Edit became a proper panel — Title, description, status and momentum in one form instead of a chain of prompts
• Logs print and back up — The history of a long job travels with your data
Quick List, and a sidebar you control
• 📌 Quick List — An always-visible register of things with due dates, sitting above Quick Notes
• Dates that speak — Overdue items turn red, anything due within a week turns amber
• Overdue count — Shown in the panel header so it is visible at a glance
• Two orders — Sorted by date, or switch to your own order and drag items around
• Ticking one off logs a victory — Progress is still worth marking
• Collapsible panels — Priority Radar, Victories, Quick List and Quick Notes each fold away, remembered per workspace
• Victories take less room — The panel is capped lower so it no longer crowds the sidebar
• Included in reports and backups — The Quick List prints with the workspace and travels with your data
A 30-day backup reminder
• Spoken plainly — If no full backup has been taken in 30 days, the app says so on opening
• Names what is at stake — Counts your actual tasks, Master Tasks and contacts rather than warning in the abstract
• Stays flagged — The Export button turns red until a real backup is taken
• Snooze, not dismiss — Seven days, then it asks again
• Quiet when there is nothing to lose — A near-empty install is not nagged
• Yours to switch off — A toggle in Settings → Backup & Restore, honestly labelled
The Export button can no longer be mistaken for a backup
• Export now asks — A readable report for this workspace, or a full restorable backup
• Plain wording — The chooser states which file can actually bring your work back
• Reports say so themselves — Exported reports carry a warning that they cannot be restored
• Backup age shown — The chooser tells you when you last took a real backup, in red if never or over a month
• One button, no hunting — A full backup no longer requires knowing to look in Settings
Every export now names itself properly
• Dated, versioned filenames — Exports are saved as YYYYMMDD Label v NN.NN-a
• No more collisions — The sequence climbs with every export, so two on the same day never overwrite each other
• Self-identifying files — The same version string is written inside each file, so it can be identified even if renamed
• Applies to all four exports — Workspace HTML, comprehensive JSON, full backup, and contact data
• Safe filenames — Characters that Windows and macOS reject are replaced automatically
• Sequence travels with your backups — Restoring on a new machine will not restart the numbering
Priority Order — a forced ranking for each workspace
• ☰ Rank button — Sits in the Priority Radar header of every workspace
• One combined list — Active canvas tasks and Master Tasks collated together
• Drag to rank — Or use ▲▼ to nudge and ⇑ to send to the top
• Independent of the canvas — The ranking is stored separately, so moving cards around never disturbs it
• Rank badges — Optional numbers on canvas cards so the two views stay connected
• Act from the list — Add to Radar, mark done, or promote a Master Task without leaving it
• Filter and quick sorts — Search by word, show active or master only, or reset to A–Z
• Arrange canvas — Optional one-click column layout in rank order
• Included in backups — Rankings travel with your export and restore files
